1. Hood Dominates

Derry Area senior Ryan Hood continued his mound dominance Monday afternoon as the Trojan baseball team secured their third straight section win against visiting Mount Pleasant Area Vikings 12-3, in a rain-shortened game at Grandview Field.   Despite giving up three second inning runs without allowing a hit, Hood fanned 12 and gave up just two hits in the win.  The right-hander has struck out 23 batters in his last two outings while surrendering just four hits and walking three.

Hood finished with two hits and three RBI while Antonio Hauser, Johnathan Hugus and Noah Cymmerman added two hits each.  Nick Thomas and Jake Watson scored two runs each for the winners.

Derry Area now 4-1 overall and 3-0i n section play will play game two of its back-to-back series against the Vikings this afternoon on the road.  Game time is slated for 4:00.

2. Volleyball Wins

The Derry Area Trojan Volleyball team beat Armstrong 3-1. Scores were 25-17, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20.  Nick Allison led Derry with 9 kills. Gabe Carbonara, Ethan Frye and Noah Berkhimer all added 7 kills. Matt Rhoades had 34 assists and 10 digs. Elijah Wigand had 14 digs.

Derry also won the JV match 2-1.  Scores were 23-25, 25-19 and 15-9.  Cameron McNichol had 8 kills to lead Derry. Johnathan Shumaker had 17 assists and Bryce McNichol had 14 digs.

3. Softball

In softball action, the Lady Trojans fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 16-1 loss to Deer Lakes HS on Monday.
