After falling behind 4-1 early, the Trojan baseball team bounced back in a big way defeating Southmoreland 12-6 Wednesday afternoon at Grandview field in front of a nice crowd for senior day.

All nine Trojan seniors got starts on Wednesday and after the Scotties pushed across two runs in the opening stanza, Derry Area responded with one in the bottom of the inning. Lucas Ray drew a leadoff walk and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 2-1 game after one inning.

Southmoreland would add two more tallies in the second inning off Trojan starter William Hugus to make it a 4-1 game.

DA would tie the score 4-4 in the home half of the third inning. After one out, Ryan Hood drew a walk and that was followed up by a Noah Cymmerman single. Brayden Mickinac then smacked an RBI single to left field driving in Hood. Nick Thomas then doubled deep to right centerfield knocking in two runs to tie things up.

The Trojans would put the game away in the fourth inning by scoring five runs. Luke Ray drew a free pass after one out. Jonathan Hugus then hit a slow roller to the right of the pitchers mound and the ball was thrown late and wide of the mark as Luke Ray raced all the way around to score and John Hugus ended up at third base. Hood added a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-4 game. Noah Cymmerman promptly singled and Brayden Mickinac walked. Nick Thomas singled up the middle to score Noah Cymmerman making it 7-4. After a walk to Blake Cecchini, Jake Watson singled and thanks to a Scottie error two runners would score to make it 9-4.

DA would add its final three runs in the fifth inning. Luke Ray singled, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Ryan Hood then smacked a ball to right field that was misplayed allowing Luke Ray to score easily making it 10-4. Noah Cymmerman then singled, Nick Thomas added a sacrifice fly and pinch runner John Wasnick scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-4.

Noah Cymmerman finished with three hits and scored twice. Nick Thomas was 2-3 with four RBI, and Luke Ray singled twice and scored three runs.

The Trojans (11-5) conclude the regular season at Indiana on Friday in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00.

DA will await Friday morning’s pairing meeting to see who they will play in the opening round of the WPIAL 3A baseball playoffs which are slated to get underway next Wednesday and Thursday.
