Small Changes = Big Differences

Making small changes in your life can make life not seem like it blends together.

Small Changes = Big Differences

Routines. Everyday is a routine. Get up, go to school, go home, go to sleep. A repeating routine like this with no change can make it appear as if every day is blending together.
This is a huge leading factor of boredom and tiredness, not only in teens but for adults as well.
With this, something that can be done to prevent these feelings is to make a small change in your life within every day. Whether it be trying something completely new or making a small change in your daily routine, you can quickly revert the feelings of tiredness and boredom to feeling more awake both mentally and physically.
For example, if you always have a plain bagel for breakfast, perhaps try one with strawberry cream cheese one day.
Small changes like this every day will eventually lead you to have a more open mind, be more curious to try more things, and make you more knowledgable.
Life can be chaotic and throw us down different paths, so you may feel lost. However, there will always be things in your life that you can control.
You can control what foods you eat.
You can control the time you set aside to do things.
You can control when you go out.
You can control what you drink.
You can control who your friends are.
These are things that you can control not just one day, but every single day.
In Justin Thomas Miller’s article, “The Butterfly Effect: How Small Changes Lead to Big Progress,” he branches off from James Clear’s book, “Atomic Habits,” where Clear made the statement that by improving by 1% every day can lead up to making 37% change by the end of the year.
Another thing referenced in Miller’s article is the question commonly asked in math class: Would you rather have a million dollars today or a penny that doubles every day?
Most of you might choose the million dollars today for obvious reasons; a million dollars is worth way more than a single penny. However, after 30 days of the penny doubling, you would be 5.3 million dollars richer.
You might be wondering how this scenario relates to this article. Well, this scenario shows how something as small as a penny every day can make a huge difference, just like a small change every day can make a huge difference.
With this, remember not to stress yourself with making a change every single day. Maybe try once a week at first, then progress slowly to every day. Even though it might seem like not as much, these changes can ease the feeling of life becoming a blur.

In 2022, think about this philosophy and try applying it now.
