Enough for You – Olivia Rodrigo

This song being my number one comes to no surprise to me. I know the words by heart and the message encrypted itself in my mind. But it isn’t just the self confidence she preaches that draws me in, it’s the musical techniques she uses that keeps me coming back for more. The beginning of the song she starts off quiet, shy, and sings almost in a whisper. As the song progresses though, she gets louder and louder until she has found “her voice” and belts the words. As someone who feels as though they don’t have a voice all the time, this song is so empowering and reassuring to all women that we are enough.

Traitor – Olivia Rodrigo

If one line in a song gives you the chills every time you hear it, that one line can be enough to make a song your number two listened to song of the year. When I hear the line “god I wish you would’ve thought this through before I went and fell in love with you,” I can think of so many different times where my friends and I screamed this at the top of our lungs. We would play this song if we were happy, sad, angry, or if we simply wanted to show off our ability to sing every single word.

Favorite Crime – Olivia Rodrigo

I am surprised to see this song so high on my list. While yes I am guilty of listening to it many times, it wasn’t one that I had on repeat. So many other songs could have filled this spot but instead I am stuck looking at this list where my number three is about a girl trying to decide if her heart break was her fault, or her ex’s fault (she blames the ex).

Good 4 u – Olivia Rodrigo

Seeing this song on my list brings a smile to my face. When I hear this song I can close my eyes and almost feel wind on my face from long car rides at night in the summer, blasting this song with the windows down, and screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs with my best friends. Late at night or during the day, when this song came on in the car all conversations would stop and we would all join in singing for the next two minutes and fifty eight seconds.

1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back – Olivia Rodrigo

Sometimes you hear a song and you feel as though it just relates to exactly what you are going through. You feel as though the artist is singing just for you. This song is about being taken on an emotional rollercoaster in a relationship with someone. Whether it be a romantic relationship or a platonic one, this explains how communication to any situation is key to success. It also helps that the music is beautifully written.
