Pennsylvania Man Receives Six-Year Sentence for Meth Trafficking
A man from Erie, aged 58, has been given a federal prison sentence of more than six years for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute and possess methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti.
Walter Scott McMahon has been sentenced to 76 months in prison, with an additional five years of supervised release, by United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan on January 22, 2025. The charges against him are related to his participation in methamphetamine trafficking, which took place between July 2019 and June 2020 in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
According to court records, McMahon was involved in a conspiracy with others to distribute a methamphetamine mixture weighing 500 grams or more. Evidence from federal wiretaps revealed McMahon acquiring methamphetamine in large quantities with the intention of distributing it to others.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and Pennsylvania State Police led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon prosecuting the case. Several other agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Internal Revenue Service–Criminal Investigation, United States Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and multiple local law enforcement entities, also participated in the investigation.
The prosecution formed a vital part of an initiative known as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). This initiative focuses on apprehending high-level drug traffickers and dismantling criminal networks through a coordinated effort involving federal, state, and local agencies.
