White House reports arrest of hundreds of “criminals who are in the country illegally” and deportation of hundreds more with military assistance
The White House announced that President Trump’s long-awaited mass deportation operation has commenced, resulting in the arrest of numerous “illegal immigrant criminals” in the United States. Furthermore, hundreds of individuals were flown out of the country on military aircraft.
In a Thursday night post, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the Trump Administration has apprehended 538 illegal immigrant criminals. Among them are a suspected terrorist, four members of the Tren de Aragua gang, and several individuals convicted of sex crimes against minors. The Tren de Aragua gang, originally from Venezuela, has gained notoriety for its violent activities and has begun to expand its presence within the United States. This issue gained significant attention during the presidential campaign.
According to a senior administration official, out of the 538 arrests, 373 individuals had criminal records, while 165 individuals had no criminal records apart from immigration violations. Additionally, the records indicate that another 1,041 people were either removed or repatriated.
Several arrests were made in different locations. In Buffalo, authorities apprehended a 23-year-old Ecuadorian citizen who had been convicted of rape. Another arrest in Buffalo involved a man from the Dominican Republic who had previously been convicted of continuous sexual conduct against a child. In San Francisco, ICE detained a man who had been convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child aged 14 or younger and had received a 12-year prison sentence.
According to a defense official, two flights were carried out overnight, both heading to Guatemala. As confirmed by a Guatemalan migration official, three flights have arrived thus far. The first flight, originating from El Paso, brought in 80 individuals in the early hours of Friday morning. Shortly after, a flight departing from Tucson also carried 80 people and arrived at approximately 7 a.m. Lastly, a third flight originating from El Paso arrived on Friday afternoon, carrying around 105 individuals.
According to Leavitt, the Trump Administration has carried out the largest massive deportation operation in history by deporting hundreds of illegal immigrant criminals using military aircraft.
President Trump was questioned about the flights after arriving in Asheville, North Carolina, where he was assessing the damage caused by Hurricane Helene in the previous year. In response, he informed reporters that the deportation process was progressing smoothly, specifically targeting dangerous and hardened criminals. He emphasized that these individuals were among the worst offenders, highlighting the administration’s priority of removing them from the country. However, the Trump administration has not provided any additional details about the criminal backgrounds of those who were aboard the deportation flights.
According to three officials, the decision to utilize military aircraft for deportation flights was made during the Trump administration, rather than the Biden administration. These flights are a component of the measures announced by the acting secretary of defense on Wednesday, in response to President Trump’s executive action which mandated an increased military presence at the border.
During his campaign, Mr. Trump made a commitment to addressing the issue of illegal immigration. As he embarks on his second term, he wasted no time in taking action to revamp the U.S. immigration system through a series of executive actions.
There are approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, with many residing in the country for an extended period of time.
In a recent statement, Newark, New Jersey Mayor Ras Baraka, a Democrat, expressed his concerns about a raid conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. He highlighted that the raid targeted a local establishment and resulted in the detention of both undocumented residents and citizens, without the agents producing a warrant.
During the raid, Baraka revealed that one of the individuals detained was a military veteran from the United States.
