3 things to know for March 15: KIND Closet, WCCA Scholarship, Mike Rowe Works

1.KIND Closet

In need of community service hours?  KIND Closet is looking for volunteers to help organize the closet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week from 3:00-4:00pm.  See Ms. Smolleck if you’re interested.

2. WCCA Scholarship

The Westmoreland County Coaches Association offers scholarships to student-athletes within Westmoreland County. Scholarships of $1000 or more have been granted to high school seniors who participate in high school athletics.  Students can see Coach Smeltzer to pick up an application.  The application must be signed by a coach who is a member of the WCCA.  DA coaches who are members: Smeltzer, Brisbane and Kelly.  They do not have to be YOUR coach in order to sign the application.

3. Mike Rowe Works

Are you a hard worker and planning on a career in a “hard field”? Planning on going to trade school and not college? Want to run heavy equipment, welding, plumbing, HVAC or climb poles? This is the scholarship for you! The Mike Rowe Works Foundation is giving away $1,000,000 in scholarships this year!

To apply for a scholarship, the applicant must:

Enroll in an approved program (approved programs are listed on the website)

Sign the SWEAT Pledge and answer 4 questions about the Pledge

Make a video, have 2 letters of recommendation, proof of school costs and official high school transcripts

4-year college programs and bachelor’s degree programs do NOT apply!

Rideshare companies Uber and Lyft have announced plans to add a small fee on rides to help drivers deal with rising gas prices across the country. Starting tomorrow, Uber users will pay an extra $0.45 or $0.55 per trip and an additional $0.35 or $0.45 for Uber Eats for at least the next two months, depending on the location.
