Jessica Lynn Sanders, a 42-year-old resident of Lewistown, was arrested on Tuesday by the Lewistown Police. She is facing multiple charges, including felony theft, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and misdemeanor theft.
Lewistown Police received a call about a stolen vehicle at around 8:51 p.m. on Monday. The incident occurred in the 300 block of Logan Street.
A man who was wanted in connection with a shooting in Chambersburg has been apprehended in Virginia.
While the vehicle owner was in the process of delivering groceries, a woman, later identified as Sanders, seized the opportunity and entered the vehicle. Without any hesitation, she drove away, leaving the rear hatch wide open.
A police officer from Mifflin County Regional Police noticed the vehicle on Valley Street and made an attempt to stop it. This resulted in a chase that took place on U.S. 522 towards McClure.
The pursuit came to a halt in the parking lot of a Dollar General in Derry Township.
According to the police, Sanders declined to leave the vehicle despite officers’ orders.
On Tuesday morning, she was arraigned and subsequently committed to Mifflin County Prison. Unfortunately, she was unable to post bail, which was set at $25,000.
The preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday.
Mifflin County Regional Police will file additional charges related to the pursuit.
